SUMMARY;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Campus Sexual Violence in Popular Media: A Critical Look at the film After the Hunt (2025)
LOCATION:Horizon Hall 5225 5th Floor , Fairfax, Virginia, United States
URL:https://mason360.gmu.edu/rsvp?id=2306278
DESCRIPTION:The satirical intent behind Luca Guadagnino's film, After the Hunt, was never clearly established by the director but was frequently assumed and alluded to in the reviews that marked its release in 2025. The film, featuring performances by Julia Roberts, Andrew Garfield, and Ayo Edebiri, was centered on the professional and social fallout of an allegation of sexual assault between a graduate student and a faculty member at Yale University.  While the consensus was that the film was intending to say something important about sexual assault on college campuses during a post-#MeToo society, ultimately its reception can best be described as controversial and polarizing. \n\nKristin Gibson, a current GMU student in the PhD in Education program with a concentration in Higher Education and an Associate Director at the Student Support Advocacy Center, where she supervises the area of Survivor Support, will be providing context around campus sexual violence and how conflicting understandings of the topic complicate both the decision to depict it as satire and audience reception of such depictions.\n---\nEvent Details: https://mason360.gmu.edu/rsvp?id=2306278
